[ Summary ] The most important thing concerning medical management is to achieve an expected goal on schedule. The goal of clinical pathways is to produce a specific outcome. For example, at the introduction of hemodialysis it is necessary to forecast how many days a patient will have to stay in the hospital, or be discharged when there is available blood access, acceptance of hemodialysis, and comprehension of diet therapy. Medical management without clear a outcome forecast or only at the doctor's discretion can not guarantee quality medicial care and also can not contain expenditures. The use of a projected outcome in the pathway enables a medical team to have shared information and facilitates hospital management. In this article the methods for projecting outcomes in pathways is outlined in referrence to the management and control of medical quality.
