[ Summary ] Hemodialysis, with enhanced internal filtration is a new modality for blood purification, which is capable of removing solutes more efficiently than the conventional method. Although in theory, internal filtration can be enhanced by modifying the geometry of hollow fibers, it remains to be investigated whether we can enhance it sufficiently, to achieve a clinical impact. However, hemodialysis with enhanced internal filtration seems to be a promising technique, as it is simple and cost effective. Concerning hemodialysis with enhanced internal filtration, a large amount of dialysis fluid enters the blood stream of patients, therefore, we should use only highly purified dialysis fluids.
