[ Summary ] AV grafts placements have increased in vascular access surgery since the number of patients who cannot have a native AV fistula has increased. The implantation of AV grafts needs to be done carefully in cases of heart failure and infection because AV grafts have larger access flow and are more susceptible to infection than native AV fistulas. To improve the patency of AV grafts, a decrease rates of thrombosis and infection is essential. Monitoring of stenosis and aggressive treatments for stenotic lesions are useful to prevent graft thrombosis. To achieve this program, cooperation between doctors, hemodialysis unit staff members, and medical technicians is necessary. To prevent graft infection, use of sterile procedures for punctures and hemostasis is important.
