[ Summary ] The Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy (JSDT) is currently preparing a guideline for the construction and maintenance of vascular access (VA). It is desirable to prepare a VA intervention treatment manual for each medical facility using examples from the guideline of JSDT. This should be done in consideration of the actual conditions at the respective facilities to determine the absolute and relative indications for intervention treatment. Furthermore, patency results should be monitored following treatment for stenosis or occlusion. As for selection of treatment procedures, it is desirable, in principle, to ask for or to receive instruction from the most accomplished medical doctor (s) (including vascular surgeons, radiologists or dialysis specialists) concerning VA treatments in the respective medical facility or in the neighboring area.
