[ Summary ] The medical condition of patients at the time of dialysis initiation is extremely diverse in terms of patients age or degree of diabetic condition. Although the goal of therapy for pre-dialysis patients is avoidance of dialysis, treatment of complications which may affect ADL, QOL and a long term prognoses after introduction of dialysis therapy is frequently required. However, many patients have actually been introduced to nephrologists while in the end stages of renal disease (ESRD).
From these viewpoint, in addition to the prevention and treatment of complications in pre-dialysis period, selection of a suitable remedy and decisions on starting time for ESRD and measures to avoid complications are also important for patients at the initiation of dialysis.
