[ Summary ] Since kidneys, which consist of several kinds of essential cells, are difficult to be regenerate, a new bioartificial kidney treatment for patients with renal failure should be developed. Bioartificial tubule devices, which are composed of proximal tubular epithelial cells and hollow fiber modules, have been developed, and successfully applied for acute renal failure patients with endotoxemia, by Humes et al. The prognosis for patients was improved after treatment with bioartificial tubule devices.
