[ Summary ] The prevalence of dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA) rises with dialysis duration and age at the onset of dialysis. For the prevention of development and the progress of symptoms of DRA, it is effective to use of biocompatible high-performance dialysis membranes, to select a dialysis modality for greater clearance ofbeta2-microglobulin and purification of the dialysis solution. A beta2-microgulobulin adsorption column might be effective in reducing ostenarticular pain for symptomatic DRA during the use of the device. Elucidation of the development of DRA is still inadequate, and a dialysis modality, which completely prevents DRA does not exist. Further research in this field and its application to medical treatment are required.
