[ Summary ] |
Gejyo et al. have reported that the amyloid fibril protein associated with dialysis-related amyloidosis is beta2-microglobulin (beta2-m). However, the detailed mechanism of amyloid fibril formation remains to be clarified. beta2-m has the same beta-plated structure as serum amyloid A protein, and can readily form amyloid fibrils. Acidic beta2-m, truncated beta2-m and the advanced glycation end product beta2-m, as well as native beta2-m, were reported to be modified forms of beta2-m, and were investigated as to amyloidgenesity. Modified beta2-m is described in this chapter. |
