[ Summary ] From 1979 until 2002, the Japanese health care insurance policy for dialysis succeed in cutting the costs for dialysis without decreasing dialysis quality due to an incentive giving payment system.
However, owing to the economic depression in the 1990's, Prime Minister Koizumi made a change in 2002 in these incentive giving payment systems for dialysis, ignoring the time factor.
Although dialysis quality for patients, at present, is not deteriorating, dialysis hours are being reduced. A decrease in dialysis quality will be inevitable in the future.
