[ Summary ] Prevention of and treatment for renal osteodystrophy and metastatic calcification can improve general mortality rates and mortality rates of chronic dialysis patients. The guidelines published by the EDTA (2000) and the DOQI (2003) recommended different targets for biochemical markers and selections of active vitamin D metabolites and phosphate binders. Further evidence must be gathered to find suitable targets and drug selections for Japanese long-term dialysis patients.
