[ Summary ] Protein-energy malnutrition is frequently associated with end-stage renal failure, and is regarded as a principal risk factor related to mortality and morbidity in these patients. Compared with male patients, the characteristic features of female patients are lower body protein mass and higher body fat mass assessed by body composition analyses and anthropometrical measurements. Chronological nutritional assessment assorting several parameters including body composition and blood chemistry is important for the individualized management of dialysis patients.
