[ Summary ] A new PD dialysate with lower GDP (glucose degradation products) has been developed by modifying dialysate container and heat sterilization conditions, so that oxidative stress produced in the dialysate, may be greatly diminished. It has also been proposed that completely oxidant free dialysate be produced by a combination of technologies such as separate autoclaving of acidified glucose (pH 3 to 4) and electrolytes (pH 8), and a method to feed reductant into the third chamber.
Furthermore, for PD patients who suffer from insufficient anti-oxidative capacity, a trial is being made on activating the recovered albumin from the PD effluent with a reductant and returning it to the peritoneal cavity.
