[ Summary ] Advanced glycation end products accelerate encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) in long-term peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. We tried to avoid the EPS in PD patients by adding patients' albumin to their own waste peritoneal dialysate as an osmotic agent. This method suggests that we may reduce the chances of EPS and be able to avoid low albuminemia. The trial machine successfully made a very highly concentrated albumin solution, with over 100 times the albumin in the waste dialysate. A fully automated system, using a computer and sensors may possibly become widely used in patients' homes, if the size of the machine and cassette type circuit can be made more compact.
