[ Summary ] Anemia is an independent risk factor for chronic congestive heart failure. We presented information that indicates the cardiac functions of hemodialysis (HD) patients with anemia were poor, compared with those of HD patients without anemia, and the treatment of anemia improved cardiac functions. Moreover, the presence of anemia at the point of HD administration affected the cardiac function of HD patients 1-year after HD administration. Other investigators also reported similar effects on anemia improvement by employing erythropoietin for cardiac function in dialysis and predialysis patients. Correction of renal anemia is important for cardiac functions in predialysis and dialysis patients.
