[ Summary ] Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty(PTA) is commonly performed for the repair of failing or thrombosed vascular accesses. Stenosis that occurs in a vascular access should be treated with PTA if the stenosis is associated with decreasing access flow, recirculation or elevated venous pressure. PTA techniques can be used for the management of stenosis or occulusion, locating both arter. iovenous fistula and grafts. PTA is also the preferred treatment for central veinous stenosis. The primary patency rate at 6 months and 12 months was 60% and 40%, respectively. Details of the indications, contraindications, complications and results are reviewed. In conclusion, angioplasty is a safe, easy and effective treatment that can extend vascular access life.
