[ Summary ] We should chose a B-mode or an M-mode, color Doppler, or a pulse Doppler for the ultrasound diagnosis of vascular access. It is desirable to determine vessel size, using the B-mode for preoperative mapping. It is possible to detect stenosis with both B-mode and color Dopplers. Color Dopplers are also suitable for observing the shape or the vessel walls of pseudoaneurysms and they contribute useful information to the operative design. Pulse Dopplers and M-mode Dopplers are useful inobserving vein wall motion or turbulence at the anastomosis graft site. It is possible to observe the pattern of the blood stream with Pulse Dopplers. Pulse Dopplers are also employed to measure blood flow and to analyze hemodynamics.
