Title What can I personally do to become a certified dialysis nurse?
Publish Date 2003/10

[ Summary ] The dialysis nurse faces many complicated patient care issues. Some of these include the variety of treatments for end stage renal failure: prolonged patient treatment and the associated complications and concerns for terminal care, as well as end of life situations. We need dialysis nurses who are knowledgeable and skilled to provide high quality care to their patients in every dialysis facility. To be certified, we must pass the exam. At the personal level to help us we can:
1) Read books and journal articles related to dialysis nursing
2) Attend conferences
3) Be interested in all therapies, including HD and PD
4) Be actively involved in continuing education
5) Have a positive attitude about learning
Sympathetic, humanitarian nurses are needed in every area. Hopefully, the more nurses learn about dialysis nursing through the certification process, the more they will find dialysis nursing rewarding and motivating. I hope many nurses will become certified.
