[ Summary ] The Kt/Vurea value with the lowest risk of death (i.e., adequate Kt/V value) varies from patient to patient. In male patients, the higher the predialysis serum phosphate level is, or the higher the nPCR level is, the greater the adequate Kt/Vurea value. Similarly, in female patients, the higher the predialysis serum phosphate level is, or the greater the interdialytic body weight gain is, the greater the adequate Kt/Vurea value.
With HDF therapy, joint pain, skin itchiness, irritability and insomnia are alleviated. In other words, HDF therapy improves the patient QOL.
In patients who experience severe hypotension during hemodialysis, urea removal often must be diminished. In order to reduce urea removal during treatment, Takezawa et al. suggested the predilution of on-line HDF, using the dialyzate outflowing from the hemodiafilter as a replacement fluid. We also propose to switching treatment modality from HDF to HF by reducing dialyzate flow rate when patient's blood pressure decreases.
