[ Summary ] Chronic dialysis patients show a high prevalence for and incidence of HBV and HCV hepatitis. If left untreated, some may develop liver cirrhosis or hepatoma, and die after long-term maintenance dialysis. It is recommended that nephrologists, coworkers and also dialysis patients must be educated as to the risks associated with viral hepatitis, and that they must promote the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis.
