[ Summary ] Hypertension is an early and frequent finding of ADPKD, occurring in approximately 60% of patients before the renal function has become impaired. ADPKD patients with hypertension experience a rapid loss of renal function. Hypertension is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular events. Many studies show that the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system is an important factor in the development and continuation of hypertension in ADPKD cases. Prospective randomized studies are needed to determine effective medicines for the treatment of hypertension in these patients.
