[ Summary ] Arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO) has been rapidly increasing in Japan. Particularly, ASO develops more frequently in hemodialysis(HD) patients than in the general public. This is because the age of these patients is more advanced and the number of diabetic nephropathy patients is higher with HD patients. API measurement and duplex ultrasonography are useful for early diagnosis of ASO. Angio plasty is not effective for below the knee artery stenosis. For those lesions, CO2 foot bathing and/or rehabilitation are indicated. Twenty six ASO patients, with critical limbischemia (FontaineIV) underwent CO2 foot bathing, and in 21 out of 34 lesions (61.8%) salvage was possible. Foot care, including CO2 foot bathing, is important at any stage of ASO, and the diagnosis and treatment of ASO should be done in the early stages of this condition.
