[ Summary ] Nurses need to ensure the safety and comfort of dementia patients receiving hemodialysis. This is because, their abilities to adapt to their surroundings and stimulation become weak. Also, their abilities to maintain their general health diminish. These events are caused by both aging and dementia. Nurses have to understand the characteristics of aged and demented patients. They need to developempathy for patients. We must for understand patients' feelings and reactions. If we can care for them individually and can offer safe, comfortable hemodialysis treatment. Nursing for dementia patients receiving hemodialysis is a major theme in the 21 century in Japan.
