[ Summary ] The recent increasing trend of mycobacterial infections (tuberculosis, in particular) in Japan has drawn much attention. Approximately at least 40,000 new tubercular patients have annually been registered. The majority are immunocompromised patients such as the elderly, diabetics, patients on corticosteroids, HIV-positivs patients and dialysis patients. Considering that mass out break and nosocomial infection of tuberculosis hava frequently occurred, medical professionals are required to acquire in-depth knowledge about this disease, accuracy of diagnosis and speed. Prevention of nosocomial infection and improvement of countermeasures are important, urgent issues. As a matter of course, strict and precise actions are also required of professionals engaged in dialysis therapy.
