[ Summary ] | The incidence and frequency of cancers in the dialysis population is higher when compared to the general population. A high incident (36%) was seen during the first twelve months of dialysis treatment. The proportion of malignancies of digestive and genitourinary organs was high, accounting for 40% and 16%, respectively. We propose that for cancer screening we might test for the malignancy at the early phase of dialysis treatment and closely follow up annually or semiannually using fecal occult blood testing, gastroscopy or gastric radiology, abdominal computed tomography, and the measurement of the tumor makers including alpha fetoprotein, CA125 and prostate-specific antigen. |
