[ Summary ] Tumor markers are useful tools in early diagnosis, monitoring of disease progression and response to treatment of malignancies. It has been reported that serum levels of tumor markers in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Serum levels of AFP in HD patients were reported to be within normal range. CEA were often false-positive in HD patients without malignant disease. CA 19-9 and many new tumor markers still remain unclear. Possible factors that affect the levels of tumor markers in HD patients are renal excretion rate, type of dialyzer membrane, hemoconcentration on HD, influence on metabolizing and production of tumor marker by uremic toxins, medical drugs and the difference of measurement system. Tumor markers in HD patients should be used carefully.
