[ Summary ] The prognoses for hemodialysis patients depends, for the most part, on successful education during the introduction period. Therefore, we must continuously instruct patients, in order to gain the advantages of self care and a high quality of life in order to improve the patient's prognosis. The major problems with the old guidance system, using checklist, is that it is unclear, lacks adequate timing and continuity.
We introduced the concept of a critical path and realized the need for more practical guidance. The critical path improve approach may many aspects of patient care for instance, standardization of instruction contents and timing, continuation of intra-section and inter-sections, and qualifing care. Patients and their families may receive adequate informed consent and hemodialysis knowledge in initial period by using this method. We conclude that guidance using critical path methods, is useful for improving patient's quality of life and achiving self-care ability.
