[ Summary ] In the parallel flow model, organ systems are allocated to either a high (i. e., digestive organs) or a low blood flow system (i. e., muscle and skin). In the model, the high flow system contains 20% of the total body water but is perfused by 85% of the systemic blood flow, whereas the low flow system contains 80% of the total body water, but is perfused only by 15% of the systemic blood flow.
Analysis of this model enbles determination of adequate blood flow rate during hemodialysis.
