[ Summary ] 22-oxacalcitriol, hypocalcemic analogue of calcitriol, has recently been introduced to the market in Japan. A twelve month-clinical investigation indicated that serum intact PTH levels were suppressed from 82+-57pg/ml (mean +-SE) to 469pg/ml in the first 4 weeks and increased again to 504pg/ml at the end of 52 week period. Serum calcium increased from 9.8+-0.1mg/dl to 10.5mg/dl in 4 weeks and was at a 10.6 mg/dl level at the end of the period. The effects of this new drug may be predicted by initial serum calcium levels.
