[ Summary ] Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common complication associated with dialysis therapy and diabetes mellitus. Therefore, the cause of ED in dialysis patients with diabetes mellitus (DM group) is very complex. However, the fact is that we have little information about it, except to speculates that there is a difference between dialysis patients with diabetes mellitus and other dialysis patients (non-DM group) concerning psychological factors, neuropathy or angiopathy.
In our study, the incidence of stress related diseases in the DM group was higher than for the non-DM group. In addition, the frequency of sexual desire and erectile function in the DM group decreased more than in the non-DM group.
In recent years, therapy for ED has become one of the most important considerations for patients receiving dialysis therapy. The close cooperation of physicians, psychiatrists and urologists is essential for treatment of ED in dialysis patients with diabetes mellitus.
