[ Summary ] Patients on maintenance dialysis are apt to experience malnutrition, because of various metabolic disorders and appetite loss.
Hypoalbuminemia, decreased levels of PCR, and blood urea nitrogen are usually associated with malnutrition and considered as useful predictors of long term morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients.
Every effort should be taken to avoid protein malnutrition, in order to improve the long term prognosis for these patients.
