[ Summary ] We can maintain dialysis patient's lives for some time, if any kind of dialyzer is used. However, to maintain higher survival rates and quality of life, it is necessary to select the dialyzer which is most suitable for the condition of the patient. In selecting a dialyzer, one needs to consider the removal efficiency (clearance), ultrafiltration rates, biocompatibility, and assess the patient's condition. The ideal target of dialysis treatment is high efficiency, equal to normal renal function. To achieve this, systematic selection criterion must be well known from the beginning of long-term hemodialysis.
