[ Summary ] There are many performance parameters for dialyzers, such as clearance (CL), which shows solute removal rates of the dialyzer, and ultrafiltration rates (UFR), which show water flux. The term CL indicates a calculated blood flow rate with a zero concentration level from the dialyzer. The equation for CL for small molecules, such as urea is different from the equation for CL for low molecular weight proteins such as beta-2-microglobulin. The UFR levels indicate the water permeability of a dialyzer. In the selection of a dialyzer we need to know the UFR because it relates to solute permeability.
