[ Summary ] Many cases of depression have been reported in patients with end-stage renal disease treated with hemodialysis. The appropriate diagnosis and treatment of depression in hemodialysis patients not only improves compliance with treatment and quality of life, but also reduces the risk of subsequent physical illness, disability, and premature death. An integrated approach including medication and social support is important for the treatment of depression.
