[ Summary ] Abnormal sensations in hemodialytic patients are examined. Delusional parasitosis is characterized by the false belief that one is infested with living organisms such as parasites. Tactile hallucinations such as rawing, biting and stinging sensations are also observed in hemodialytic patients. Delusional parasitosis and tactile hallucinations have been reported as misperceptions of minor sensory disturbances occurring in hemodialytic patients as well as in those with physiological disorders such as renal failure, diabetes mellitus, hepatic disease and congestive heart failure. It is important for liaison psychiatrists to appropriately recognize and treat such abnormal sensations.
