[ Summary ] Poisoning is a syndrome caused by exposure of various substances. Basic strategies of treatment are enhancement of elimination and relief from complications. Hemodialysis or hemoperfusion is effective in elimination of some substances and hemodialysis or plasmaexchange is performed on patients with renal failure or hepatic failure secondary to poisoning. How much they ingested and how long it took to initiate treatment are the limiting factors of prognosis therefor, detailed information about poisoning is necessary. Since patients with end-stage renal failure are easily intoxicated with pharmatherapeutic drugs, dosage for these patients should be adjusted carefully.
