[ Summary ] Delirium is an acute, transient disturbance of consciousness with psychotic symptoms due to diffuse brain damage. Appropriate early diagnosis may solve some problems caused by delirium, for example, psychomoter excitement and behavior problems that cause difficulties with medical treatment, Although cases of both uremic encephalopathy and dialysis disequilibrium syndrome have decreased because of improvements in dialysis treatment, patients treated with dialysis frequently are exposed to risk factors that cause delirium, for example emotional conflicts, aging, or other complications. Treatment of the causes of delirium is a priority, and it is also important to control the environment around dialysis patients. Haloperidol and tiapride are commonly used to treat delirium, and mianser in is also useful.
