[ Summary ] Special care is required in treatment of fractures in hemodialysis patients. After injuries or operations, the increased tendency toward bleeding may accelerate the swelling of fracture sites, and increase the risk of circulation problems. During this time, rest and elevation of the injured site is desirable and heparin treatment must be avoided in hemodialysis. Concerning cast immobilization, the plaster splints or split circular casts are recommended in acute phase cases. During treatment with continuous traction, skin problems and pin infections must be considered. The abnormality of calcium metabolism may lead to delayed union or ectopic calcification.
