[ Summary ] The basic principles of fracture treatment are anatomical reduction, fixation to maintain reduced position, and rehabilitation to prevent muscle atorophy and decreased joint function.
There are two methods of anatomical reduction and fixation; conservative and surgical. The first choice of treatment is conservative, but surgical methods are often used aggressively to prevent muscle atrophy and loss of joint function, and surgery is often performed on the lower limbs, with ambulation in mind.
The choice of treatment is decided on the basis of the cause of the fracture, complications, age, occupation, and social indications.
