[ Summary ] In the process of rehabilitation of hemodialysis patients with fractures, it is important to keep in the forefront the three features of their disabilities. The following are the types of impairment they may have: any loss of anatomical structure or function, creating a disability level; any restriction of ability to perform an activity, creating a handicap level; a disadvantage for a given individual, resulting from an impairment or a disability, that limits or prevents the fulfillment of their role as a normal individual. Rehabilitation approaches must be performed differently for, in each level.
Medical staffs and allied health professionals must be aware of the pathophysiological changes brought about by the prolonged immobilization which is often carried out after fractures. Moreover, aerobic exercise is essential for hemodialysis patients because their motor endurance is so reduced.
