[ Summary ] In the field of hemocatharsis treatment, clinical engineers conduct many divergent operations in apheresis treatment. Professional knowledge of techniques for apheresis treatment is necessary. Mental and physical stresses will be encountered in treatment of some cases. The responsibilities of the clinical engineer for the apheresis are maintenance and repair, and clinical operation of equipment. The main work of clinical engineers in maintenance is checking machines before operation. The repairing the machines by clinical engneers at hospitals is rare.In clinical operation, it is necessary for clinical engineers to do their best to save the lives of patients and to improve their QOL with accurate and safe operation, exchange of information with their medical workers including doctors, and acting in cooperation with the manufacturer.
I would expect many clinical engineers to take an interest in apheresis treatment and to acquire knowledge of technology by attending academic society and technical meetings.
