[ Summary ] | Photosensitization can inactivate several viruses in blood products. Methylene blue, methylene blue derivatives, psoralen derivatives, and phthalocyanine derivatives are used for treatment of plasma, platelets red cells or as a photosensitizer. Only the methylene blue photoinactivation meyhods is clinically used for plasma products, but others are in the experimental stages. Leukocyte-associated virus transmission can be prevented by leukocyte-removal filters. Viruses in blood plasma products can be removed by using microporous-hollow fiber membrane. |
