[ Summary ] To perform dialysis therapy safely, it is desir able to develop an endotoxin monitoring system, which continuously measures endotoxin concentrations in the dialysate. We proposed a system for measuring endotoxin concentrations from the absorbance of limulus reagent reacting with dialysate, flowing in a single pipe, into which the reagent is pulse-injected. When endotoxin concentrations were measured with this system, a good correlation between the absorbance and endotoxin concentration was obtained in the range of 60-200EU/l. This system is effective for giving a warning when endotoxin concentrations suddenly rise, in such cases as when endotoxin leaks from an endotoxin-reduction filter.
