[ Summary ] Recent developments in therapeutic drug monitoring, which are based on the progress in measurement techniques for drugs in body fluids and the advances in our understanding of drugs'pharmacokinetics, has improved individualized pharmacotherapy. The pharmacokinetic parameters of drugs are often varied in patients with diseases such as renal failure. Therapeutic drug monitoring is effective in optimizing pharmacotherapy in such patients. We reviewed recent findings about pharmacokinetics and therapeutic drug monitoring in pharmacotherapy.
