[ Summary ] Nutrition support for patients with individual organ failure has been widely studied. In 1993 the practice guidelines for failure of liver, kidney, lung, and pancreas were described in the JPEN supplement "Guidelines for the Use of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in Adult and Pediatric Patients" by A.S.P.E.N. Board of Directors using methods of clinical epidemiology or evidence-based medicine.
These guidelines are also very helpful to provide nutrition support for patients with multiple organ failure (MOF). The results of nutrition suport for MOF patients depend on the severity of liver failure.
