The concept of the burnout syndrome has been well-known to Japanese medical staff members, in particular nurses working in dialysis units. A large number of medical books and papers have frequently referred to the concept of the burnout syndrome and its historical background. In this paper, therefore, we referred to the psychological state of our medical staff in the dialysis unit and how they coped with the burnout syndrome. First, we stated the specifics of medical dialysis. Next, we discussed various causative factors in relation to psychological stress of our medical staff in the dialysis unit. Finally, we suggested several coping methods for burnout syndrome, from the stand point of a liaison with the field of psychiatry. |
