[ Summary ] The present condition of computer support systems for hemodialysis therapy were examined to predict the future system for the hemodialysis field in Japan. For work with computer systems in hemodialysis therapy, the most important factor was precision of system interface or human interface. At the present time, commercially-available hemodialysis-support computer systems are no adaptations to connect to hospital intranet computer systems. Commercially-available hemodialysis support systems, mainly control dialysis machines and partiality manage ESRD patient data. Their purpose was to collect various data from dialysis machine and produce paper-less routine work for hemodialysis in hospital and clinics. Commercially-available computer system have a major problem, in that both dialysis machines and computer systems must be products of the same manufacture. In a word, hemodialysis-support computer systems must be compatible with those of other manufactures. In the hard ware field, more developments and downsizing of CPU, CRT, and printers must be achieved to work into clinical settings. In the data communication field, more use must be made of telecommunication lines.
