[ Summary ] Malnutrition is one of the major problems in children with chronic renal failure, due to gastrointestinal symptoms and also various restrictions of their diet. Nutritional management of these children by dietitians plays a major role in the treatment of chronic renal failure.
In this section we discussed the causes and general problems of end-stage renal failure (ESRF) with special emphasis on children with ESRF, with complications such as, hyponatremia, hypokalemia, dehydration, growth retardation and renal rickets.
The guidelines for children with renal diseases, suggested by the Japanese Society for Nephrology, were introduced and our experience in nutritional management of children with ESRF and its evaluation were discussed.
