[ Summary ] Retinal vein occlusionis classified into two categories. The first being central retinal vein occlusion and the second being branch retinal vein occlusion determined by the portion obstructed. The frequency of retinal branch vein occlusion is higher than that of central retinal vein occlusion. Central retinal vein occlusion is classified into the categories of venous stasis retinopathy and hemorrhagic retinopathy. The frequency of retinal vein occlusion in patients receiving hemodialysis treatment (about 3%) is higher than that of non-hemodialitic patients. In our study, all hemodialitic patients with retinal vein occlusion, were treated with erythropoietin for the renal ischemia. Additional medical treatment for thrombolysis, with early laser treatment of non-perfused retinas is necessary.
