[ Summary ] When LDL is modified by oxidative stress, phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide is detected.PCOOH is produced from the oxidization of fatty acids. LDL is composed of fatty acids. PCOOH in addition to oxidized LDL increases in dialysis patients. It has been thought that oxidized LDL dose not exist in blood. However, this opinion was born as a result of a misunderstanding which occurred because of imperfect measurement methods. The presense of oxidized LDL in the blood can obviously be proven by preforming an immunological assay, using the monoclonal antibodies.
Oxidized LDL takes part in the progression of accelerated arteriosclerosis in dialysis patients.
