[ Summary ] The first line nutritional treatment for hyperlipidemic dialysis patients is the optimization of energy intake adjusted to adequate levels to maintain desirable body weight. Thirty to thirty five kcal/kg/day, and an intake of fats of a level of around 25% of total energy intake, is optimal according to the guidelines of the Japanese Society of Nephrology. The ratio of the intake of saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, and polyunsaturated fatty acids should be close to 1:1.5:1, and that of n-6/n-3 should be close to 4:1. Reducing the intake of cholesterol, alcohol, sucrose and fructose and increasing the intake of dietary fiber is also important.
